Michael Biggs, Gareth Evans & team, Deutsche Bank

The buy side says: “They provide helpful insights and strategic updates in this difficult market environment.”

Deutsche Bank’s seven-member squad, composed of analysts in Frankfurt and London co-led by Michael Biggs, 40, and Gareth Evans, 39, leaps from runner-up to capture the crown for the first time. Biggs joined the firm in 2001 after earning a Ph.D. in economics at Cambridge University. Evans is a graduate of Cardiff University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics; he worked as a strategist at ING Bank and UBS before moving to Deutsche Bank in 2009. European equities are a “global growth story,” Evans notes, and the team believes divergence will be the dominant theme. “There are material downside risks to growth in the euro area, on the back of a deterioration in credit conditions and fiscal tightening,” he explains. “Meanwhile, the U.S. economy should continue to surprise to the upside.” The strategists project that European companies with exposure to Asian and U.S. markets, where cash-flow multiples look attractive, should do well.
