Team debut: 1994Despite a change in its leadership, UBS’s squad holds on to third place. Raymond Maguire, who helmed the team for two years after Ian Gisbourne left for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, decamped in June to become Hong Kong research director for Schroders Investment Management — and Gisbourne has retaken the reins. The 47-year-old analyst returned to UBS in January from Senhouse Asia, where he worked as an analyst and investment manager. He oversees five researchers in Bangkok, two in Hong Kong and one in Singapore that as a group keeps tabs on 43 companies in Thailand, an increase of three over the past year. Among their preferred names in the group is Pruksa Real Estate, whose stock they boosted from sell to buy in December, at 29.50 baht. The multinational commercial and residential property developer is poised to benefit from an improving consumer outlook, the squad believes. Its stock rose as high as 33.75 baht in February before being dragged back to 27.50 baht at the end of last month. But Gisbourne and his crew are sticking with it; they assign Pruksa a price objective of 36 baht. “They are our most trusted source,” declares one loyal portfolio manager.
