Institutional Investor will honor Doug Brown, senior vice president and chief investment officer at Exelon Corporation, with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the fifth annual Allocators’ Choice Awards on September 13 in New York.

Brown, who has been Exelon’s CIO since 2009, leads a team responsible for investing on behalf of pension funds, defined contribution plans, and other employee benefit programs. He oversaw the recent split of Exelon’s investment office, which coincided with the company’s spinoff of Constellation Energy, the organization’s power generation business.

Before joining Exelon, Brown served as chief investment officer at Chrysler, where he managed a total of $30 billion in assets. He began his career at the automobile manufacturer in 1983, rising through the ranks and holding roles such as treasurer for DaimlerChrysler Canada and director of corporate finance and capital markets for DaimlerChrysler. He served on the organization’s investment committees in several countries.

In 2012, Institutional Investor named Brown the Large Corporate Pension Manager of the Year.

As 2022’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Brown will join previous honorees, including Columbia Investment Management Company CEO Kim Lew (2021), Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board executive director and CIO Michael Trotsky (2019), Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust CIO Roz Hewsenian (2018), and California State Teachers’ Retirement System CIO Chris Ailman (2017).

Today, Brown not only sits on Exelon’s investment committee and its foundation’s board of directors, but he’s also on the board of the Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets and chaired CIEBA’s board of directors from 2018 through 2020. Brown also sits on boards at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, and the National Railroad Retirement Investment Trust. He’s also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Institutional Investor will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Brown at a dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City on September 13. The honor is a part of II’s larger Allocators’ Choice Awards, which includes categories such as “Innovator of the Year,” “Team of the Year,” and “CIO of the Year,” among others. Voting for those categories — which will be done exclusively by asset owners — is set to begin soon. At the event, Institutional Investor will also honor a group of up-and-coming allocators as II Rising Stars.
