Credit Suisse’s Indian operations is paying again today for something it was charged with doing six years ago, after it had already been suspended for related actions. Finance Asia reports that the Securities Exchange Board of India has suspended operations of Credit Suisse First Boston India Securities for a month for “omission to observe the code of conduct” for trading irregularities in 1999 and 2000. The transaction in question relates to alleged price manipulation of South East Asia Marine Engineering and Construction stock. No reasons were cited for the six-year delay in imposing the ban. “This is a legacy issue and has no impact on our ongoing plans to re-establish a presence in investment banking in India,” a CS spokesman told Finance Asia. The latest suspension comes after the operations had been suspended in April 2001 due to the same charges.
