Frank Quattrone may avoid a third trial on charges of obstruction of justice and witness tampering, Reuters reports, citing a letter from a lawyer for the former Credit Suisse First Boston banker. Quattrone has been lucky so far: The first time around in 2003, the trial ended with a hung jury. A year later he was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison, only to have a federal appeals court toss the conviction because of erroneous jury instructions by the federal judge in the case. Quattrone was granted a new trial, but the letter suggests that the two sides in the case were “involved in a dialogue that possibly could avoid the need for a third trial for this matter.”
