The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. has released details on its service to support compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission's mutual fund redemption fee rule in a notice to participants. The SEC Rule 22c-2 requires mutual fund companies to enter into agreements with their distribution intermediaries, by which the intermediaries provide information about shareholders and trades in omnibus accounts. Omnibus accounts refer to accounts containing the assets of multiple investors, such as a 401(k) plan. Fund companies will use the information to monitor the frequency of trading by shareholders and police for market timing. The DTCC notice confirmed the processing flow for data between the fund company and the intermediary. The DTCC's networking service will relay requests for data to the intermediary and send acknowledgements back to the fund company. It will also generate reminders for requests that have not been acted upon. Karen Gregory, DTCC spokeswoman, said users of the service will pay $200 per month and a quarter of a penny per transaction. Testing will begin July 31.
