Five Belgium-based banks have been criticized for investing in companies that reportedly work with regimes that engage in human rights violations.  According to a study by Netwerek Valanderen, which develops socially responsible and ethical investment products, AXA, ING, Fortis, Dexia and KBC combined have put more than €6.6 billion in questionable companies. The report, says Portfolio International, urges that companies should be more transparent about where they invest so its customers could better judge the human rights-related investment activities of the banks.
