There are more individuals in London financial services sector who identify themselves as gay than there were two years ago, but women are three times less likely than men to come out of the closet, according to a survey by The Blomfield Group. The recruitment firm found that while the total number of individuals in finance who call themselves homosexuals rose from 5.9% in 2004 to 6.3% today, that figure is still well below the 10% in the general population who identify themselves as such. The survey suggested that women were hesitant about coming out as lesbians as the London financial services sector is still viewed as largely male, and women’s hesitance, says Keith Robinson of Blomfield unit Origin HR, “possibly reflects the fact that women already feel that have to fight hard to maintain equality with men.”
