Domestic instance companies collected HRK758.7mn (€103.8 million) premiums in January, the Croatian Agency for Supervision of Financial Services reported. The largest share of premium revenues, HRK602.7 million or 79.4% of total, came from non-life insurance while the rest were life insurance premiums. Croatia osiguranje remained the biggest insurance company with HRK314.1 million premium revenues in January representing a market share of 41.4%. Allianz came second with HRK98.1 million premiums, followed by Euroherc osiguranje with HRK65.6 million premiums.

In the non-life insurance segment, Croatia osiguranje was the leader with a share of 48.4% of collected premiums, followed by Allianz with 12.3% and Euroherc osiguranje with 10.9%. In life insurance, the leading companies were Allianz with 15.4% market share, followed by Croatia osiguranje with 14.6%, Grawe with 10.8% and Merkur osiguranje with 10.5% share. There are a total of 27 insurance companies operating on the domestic market. In 2005, the insurance market grew by 12.2% year-over-year to HRK7.4 billion as non-life insurance posted 9.1% growth while life insurance increased by 22.2%. This rate of growth is expected to be retained this year too.
