Toronto-based Multi-Fund Management has suggested that it would rather close up shop than be the victim of a hostile takeover by Amalgamated Income Limited Partnership. The Canadian Press reports that the Multi-Fund already has made a deal with AGF Funds, Guardian Group of Funds and Goodman & Co. that would end their contracts through 2013 – and plug 88% of the firm's cash inflows. Multi-Fund said that would generate a total of about C$7.68 million, which would be distributed to shareholders – and a better deal than they would get from an Amalgamated bid. Such a move would ultimately result in the Multi-Fund in winding up the trust.
