NYSE Regulation is proposing to reduce the number of arbitrators hearing smaller claims from three to one. Currently, a panel of three arbitrators – two public and one industry-related – hears claims of $25,000 or more. Under the new proposal, the trio of arbitrators will hear claims of only $200,000 or more. “The appointment of a single, public arbitrator in cases under $200,000 will provide investors with a faster processing and a more timely decision,” said NYSE Reg Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Beyda in a statement. Beyda added that the change to a single-person arbitration will cuts costs and fees associated with the proceeding. The proposal needs approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
