What is it about hedge fund managers that make them act weird sometimes? Two shining examples last year could be found in the Bayou Management fiasco and Boaz Manor's reported mental-health issues that developed regarding the Portus Alternative Asset Management mess. And now there's Kirk Wright, the manager of the now defunct International Management Associates, and the center of the most recent HF case of the missing money and manager. His March 7 hearing has been postponed until March 14, mainly because no one has any idea where he is. But Wright has more than just HF fund matters on his mind. He also owes his ex-wife, Kasandra Pantoja, whom he divorced a year ago, a million bucks, and last month, according to the Rocky Mountain News, he made a payment. It wasn't his monthly, court-ordered $20,500, but instead he deposited at the door step of his ex-wife's grandfather, a package stuffed with $30,000 in cash. Wright later called his wife explaining he wanted to "keep his end of the bargain." Which is nice, though it would be even nicer if he felt that duty-bound when it comes to investors' money. The $150 million or so, like Wright, is still missing in action.
