With the date of her departure from the Securities and Exchange Commission looming, Commissioner Cynthia Glassman had a few cutting remarks for the agency. Speaking at the National Economists Club, Glassman accused the SEC of dragging its feet on too many projects and wasting time on others that have not had a lasting impact – namely the independent-director rule and the hedge fund registration requirement, both of which she opposed and have been returned to the agency for further consideration. “Given the court rulings, it’s unfortunate that we wasted so much time and effort on these two rules,” Glassman said. She said the SEC should “find ways to speed things up.”
