The Securities and Exchange Commission issued a directive to all banks that were involved in mergers and acquisitions during the just concluded banking consolidation program to harmonize their shareholders' registers by July. The banks have also been asked to issue share certificates of the surviving entities to all shareholders in accordance with their merger schemes. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria said it would again verify the sources of funding of the minimum shareholders fund of the new banks. This would put an end to speculations about any false claims. CBN's Operations' Deputy Governor Shamsudeen Usman revealed this at the 15th delegates conference and annual general meeting of the Money Market Association of Nigeria in Lagos .
