The Commercial Real Estate Council has begun lobbying for an exemption to a rule under the Dodd-Frank Act that would require issuers of asset-backed securities to hold 5% of the issue. The council, which said the requirements would result in fewer commercial real estate loans being made, is also preparing a new set of standards for commercial mortgage-backed securities designed to improve disclosure and encourage more responsible underwriting of loans.
