Banks operating in Asia are likely to suffer from the fragmented approach to derivatives reforms taken by countries in the region. Each country appears to be developing individual plans for using their own clearinghouses and setting different rules on which products should be cleared, rather than one system for all Asia, and this ultimately may result in costs of trading derivatives that make the activity no longer worth it.
