Tiger Crowd Steps Up Private Investing

Hedge fund firms with roots to Tiger Management are on a tear funding private companies.

Firms best known for their hedge funds have aggressively stepped up their investment activity in private companies after a relatively quiet period in the months following the stock-market meltdown.

Four firms with roots to Julian Robertson Jr.’s Tiger Management — Tiger Global Management, Coatue Management, D1 Capital Partners and Falcon Edge Capital — have already made a combined 22 investments in private companies this month after making 12 in August, according to Crunchbase.com
