The Children’s Place is the Place for Short Sellers

The stock’s slide has provided gains for short sellers — but pain for many hedge funds.

Specialty apparel retailer The Children’s Place became last week’s hot short bet after falling 23 percent Wednesday.

Short sellers made $121.7 million that day alone, adding to their gains of 2019, which now come to $278.6 million, according to S3Partners, a financial technology and analytics firm.
