In a partnership with Aite Group, Institutional Investor conducted a survey in 2018 of 105 buy-side firms from around the world on fixed income transaction cost analysis (TCA). Initial survey findings suggest just a small portion of buy-side firms that hold fixed income instruments in their portfolios use TCA to measure the cost impact of their investments. Survey findings also suggest firms are just as likely to use one platform for TCA across asset classes as they are to stitch together multiple solutions. Additionally, respondents indicate a shift toward a more even use and distribution of TCA analytics. Respondents shared a range of insights on the adoption and use of TCA, trends in fixed income, as well as challenges around data, technology, and market structure.

  • Who is using fixed income TCA?
  • Are regulations affecting adoption of TCA?
  • What matters most when choosing a third-party TCA solution?
  • What challenges are standing in the way of TCA adoption?
