Strong performance from its biggest longs enabled the embattled hedge fund to preserve its big January gains.

Greenlight Capital, the long-short firm headed by David Einhorn squeezed out a paltry 10-basis-point gain, or 0.1 percent, in February.

That fell short of the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index’s roughly 3 percent gain, excluding dividends reinvested. Still, it is a minor victory for Einhorn, who is trying desperately to turn around his firm after its flagship fund lost 34 percent in 2018 and its assets shrunk to just $2.5
