How Hound Partners Avoided Big Losses in its Hedge Funds

The Tiger Seed suffered sharp losses in its long-only funds in 2018, but its hedge funds were saved by savvy short bets.

Tiger Seed Hound Partners posted a 0.08 percent loss net of all fees and expenses in its long-short fund, Hound Partners Offshore Fund, in 2018.

That’s a pretty big achievement, considering that the fund’s long book lost a painful 16.33 percent, according to its second-half letter, dated January 24 and obtained by Institutional Investor.
