Ted Burdick, the former chief investment officer for Soros Fund Management, has joined Strategic Value Partners, an $8 billion firm founded by Victor Khosla that focuses on distressed and deep value, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Burdick is co-head of Strategic Value Partners’ North American investment team, along with current co-heads David Geenberg and Daniel Han. The three are part of a six-person senior global investment team that works closely with Khosla, who is CIO.

Burdick spent 18 years at Soros Fund Management, the family office of billionaire George Soros. There, Burdick focused on distressed debt and credit opportunities for 15 years, running a $2 billion portfolio, one of Soros’s largest.

He served as CIO for eight months beginning in 2016, succeeding Scott Bessant. After his brief stint in the CIO role, he remained with Soros running the credit portfolio.

Since the start of 2017, Strategic Value Partners has been expanding its investment team from 34 professionals to 43. Burdick is based in Greenwich.
