Third Point Posts Gains in November but Remains in the Red

Fresh off its proxy battle with Campbell Soup, the multistrategy firm headed by Dan Loeb faces an uphill battle to finish the year in positive territory.

The flagship fund managed by Dan Loeb’s Third Point posted a 1.3 percent gain in November, according to its monthly report to clients.

Even so, the Third Point Offshore fund is still down 5.2 percent for the year through November. Barring a ferocious gain in December, this is shaping up to be a losing year for Loeb, a multistrategy manager best known for his activism, underscoring the difficulty some activists are experiencing this year.
