BlackRock’s updated outlook for the rest of 2018

Portfolio investors have long used factors in risk management. Now, they’re recognizing that factors can also be return drivers. BlackRock’s Ron Ratcliff and Russ Koesterich describe their approach.

As the second quarter of 2018 is underway, BlackRock gives updates on three 2018 investment themes against a backdrop of synchronized global growth, an inflation comeback, rising interest rates and more economic uncertainty. Equity market volatility has also been on the rise, where the low-volatility environment felt its first tremors of change in February’s spike. 

In the Q2 2018 Global Investment Outlook, BlackRock details the asset class preferences and highlights two key risks to the global expansion and risk assets: the potential for trade wars in the face of rising U.S. protectionism and a spike in real yields.
