The secretive world of private banking became a bit more transparent in April when the industry’s first performance benchmarks were published by ABN Amro. “We want the ABN Amro private banking index to be the dominant point of reference for investment managers and clients at the world’s private banks,” declares Ariel Salama, ABN Amro’s London-based head of private bank coverage in the wholesale banking services division and the man who developed the index.
