Principal Global Sees Silver Lining in Funds of Hedge Funds

Principal Global Investors’ James McCaughan says Liongate Capital will help fill gaps in investment products.

The prevailing notion that the days of fund of hedge funds are numbered has no shortage of supporting evidence. Total assets have shrunk by one-third, to about $810 billion since peaking at $1.2 trillion in 2008, according to London industry tracker Preqin, while annual launches have been sinking — from 142 in 2010 to 79 in 2011 and 59 in 2012.
