Filings Show Magnetar Played Both Sides of AT&T, DirecTV Deal

Revisions to earlier 13F filings reveal that the Evanston, Illinois–based hedge fund firm owned millions of shares in both companies before their merger was finalized in July.

Sometimes it is the holdings not contained in 13F filings that turn out to be the most interesting.

Case in point: Since AT&T closed on its $48.5 billion acquisition of DirecTV in late July, we have learned that one prominent hedge fund firm had been a sizable investor in both stocks for some time.
