Pine River Capital Management

Brian Taylor’s Pine River Capital Management has not forgotten its humble origins: The fixed-income hedge fund firm retains the name of its first home in a remote cabin 150 miles outside of Minneapolis in Pine River, Minnesota. But the firm has transformed in nearly every other way. Hedge fund assets have multiplied by almost 1,500 percent since the $5.3 million Pine River managed at its inception in 2002. The office has upgraded and moved around Minnesota three times, ultimately settling into its current Minnetonka headquarters in 2007. Pine River has gone global, with seven more offices throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe, and the investment team has expanded to more than 400 professionals worldwide. In May 2014, the firm became a sub-advisor to Wells Fargo’s new Advantage Alternative Strategies fund, a liquid alternative fund with a $1000 minimum investment that opens the hedge fund space to Main Street investors…
