Few people have had a bigger impact on the hedge fund business than Moore Capital Management president M. Elaine Crocker, who will receive the manager lifetime achievement award this year at Institutional Investor's annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards.
Crocker's career has spanned nearly five decades. Although she never personally traded, Crocker has earned a reputation as a legendary talent spotter and is credited with identifying a Who's Who of traders that includes Louis Bacon, Bruce Kovner, Michael Marcus, Paul Tudor Jones II, and Monroe Trout, to name just a handful.
In 1970, she was one of the first employees of the pioneering investment firm Commodities Corporation, where among other tasks, she was responsible for portfolio selection for internal capital and managed fund products.
Crocker was one of Bacon's initial investors and in 1995 joined Bacon's Moore, where she serves as a member of the board of directors, president, and a member of the investment advisory committee. Crocker is responsible for administration of all areas of the firm and has played a major role in the recruitment of traders. She is also widely regarded as the heart of the firm. Today, Crocker also serves as a vice chair of 100 Women in Finance, helping to encourage women to make a career in the investment industry.
Crocker will be honored at the 16th Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards dinner at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York Thursday June 28. In the coming days, Institutional Investor will announce the allocator lifetime achievement award recipient, as well as the 2018 Hedge Fund Rising Stars.
