After a wide external search for someone to scout new opportunities, hedge fund giant Paul Tudor Jones last month hired Jeffrey Silverman, a Goldman Sachs prime brokerage salesman. Silverman will investigate outside hedge fund investments for the cash-rich Jones and his partners at Tudor Investment. The new recruit’s most important function, however, will be scouting out new talent to hire, according to people familiar with the plan. Jones declined comment.

Tudor has plenty of money to spend on trading beef. After posting net returns of 22 percent last year, the firm’s flagship BVI Global Fund is said to be up almost 10 percent through the beginning of July.
