Garrett Moran’s time-out

Garrett Moran is cutting back his hours , at the soccer field.

After a year spent focusing on his family, Moran, a former co-head of investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, is dipping a toe back into finance: He’s the new senior adviser to private equity group MMC Capital, a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Cos. Moran, 47, will help scout opportunities in insurance and financial services for the unit’s $1.4 billion Trident II Fund. Post-DLJ, Moran traveled in Europe with his wife and three children , ages 14, 12 and 8 , then settled into a life of carpools, hockey practices and lacrosse games. Life out of the fast lane did not prove difficult. “I was surprised at how easy it was to wind down,” he says. And he will still take time to smell the Gatorade. He reports to Charles Davis, a 23-year Goldman Sachs veteran whose son is in school with one of Moran’s children. “When I have to leave to go to a soccer game, the boss won,t be mad,” laughs Moran. “He,ll feel guilty.”
