Omers Ventures, the venture capital (VC) investment arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (Omers) pension plan, has appointed Derek Smyth as managing director. He will be in charge in assisting the firm in identifying and entering into partnerships with high-growth companies it can fund from the early stages right through to sale or initial public offering.
Before joining Omers Ventures, Smyth co-managed two VC funds as partner at Canada’s private equity firm Edgestone Capital Partners. He has also worked with solutions provider Bridgewater Systems and California-based Ironside Technologies.
