Gates Foundation Boosts Development Unit

Seattle-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has appointed Christopher Elias as president of its Global Development Program.

Seattle-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has appointed Christopher Elias as president of its Global Development Program. He will head the world’s biggest private foundation’s efforts to support people in developing countries to overcome hunger, poverty, and disease.

Elias will manage the foundation’s expanded portfolio, which will include its family health and vaccine delivery strategies along with the program’s existing work in agricultural development, financial services for the poor, water, sanitation and hygiene, and special initiatives. Elias is presently president and CEO of PATH, a Seattle-based international non-profit organization. Trevor Mundel also joined the foundation recently as president of its Global Health Program.
