The biggest global retailer Wal-Mart Stores has appointed Sylvia Mathews Burwell as president of the Walmart Foundation.

The biggest global retailer Wal-Mart Stores has appointed Sylvia Mathews Burwell as president of the Walmart Foundation, Reuters reports. She is currently president of global development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and will be joining Wal-Mart in January.

Burwell will replace Margaret McKenna, who is stepping down after four years in the role, and will be reporting to Leslie Dach, Wal-Mart’s executive vice president of corporate affairs. She has formerly been deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, deputy chief of staff to president Bill Clinton and chief of staff to Treasury secretary Robert Rubin.
