U.S. healthcare exchange-traded funds have attracted investor interest owing to their reputation of being defensive, ETF Trends reports. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund witnessed a 4.8 percent gain year to date, as opposed to a 4.2 percent loss for the S&P 500.

For investors seeking exposure to the healthcare sector, ETFs are seen as an attractive investment option, said Standard & Poor’s equity analyst Jeffrey Loo. The healthcare sector accounts for about 12 percent of the S&P 500.
