Austin OKs $675M Wind Farm Contract

The Austin, Texas, city council has given approval for the $675 million wind contract between Duke Energy Renewables and Austin Energy.

The Austin, Texas, city council has given approval for the $675 million wind contract between Duke Energy Renewables and Austin Energy, Business Journal reports. Austin Energy, based in Texas, has been allowed to buy and distribute power from the 200 megawatts second phase of a 400 megawatts wind farm Duke is building in West Texas.

Charlotte, North Carolina–headquartered energy company had earlier planned to build a 200 megawatts first phase at Los Vientos. Power from that project will be sold to San Antonio’s municipal utility CPS Energy. Duke Renewables is seeking to finish work on both phases by the end of the year.
