SECOND TEAM

Guilherme Vilazante & team  Barclays Capital

With São Paulo–based Guilherme Vilazante at the helm, Barclays Capital’s two-member team rises one notch to No. 2. The analyst are praised for “long-term insights,” as one client puts it. One example: Back in August 2009 the analysts upgraded Tecnisa from equal weight to overweight, at 6.90 reais, on valuation. In December 2010, with the stock up 53.2 percent, to R10.57, and ahead of the sector by nearly 59 percentage points, they pounded the table on the São Paulo–based builder as a likely beneficiary of an urban resurgence. The stock shot to R13.55 in early June before being dragged down in market turmoil, but nonetheless ended July up 12.4 percent, to R11.88, and ahead of the sector by 36.3 percentage points since the reiteration.
