After a year in second place, the Credit Suisse trio guided by Andrew Campbell slips back to third. The São Paulo–based researchers are singled out for upgrading wireline phone provider Telecomunicações de São Paulo from underperform to outperform in April, at 40.62 reais, on the benefits of its upcoming merger with local wireless supplier Vivo Participações. By the end of July, the stock had rung up gains of 20.1 percent, to R48.80, and outpaced the broad market by 30.1 percentage points. “They have deep knowledge and move quickly,” asserts one backer.
