The MTSU Foundation got over $8.5 million in gifts in 2011, The Daily News Journal reports. The donations are being used by the foundation for the benefit of students. Gale Prince and Jonelle Prince set up the first Centennial Scholarship at MTSU in 2010 with a pledge of $100,000.

The Centennial Scholars program aims to set up 100 such endowments, which when fully funded, will provide perpetual funds for 20-25 students every year. Each $100,000 endowment will provide a competitive award renewable for a maximum of five years, while a portion of the funds can be applied for overseas studies.
