The aptness of that description was especially evident in Subrahmanyam’s April 2009 upgrade of TVS Motor Co. from underperform all the way to buy, at 11.95 rupees, on strong moped sales growth and a more diversified product mix. Shares of the Chennai-based manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles careered a heart-stopping 353.1 percent, to Rs54.15, and raced past the sector by 233.3 percentage points, through May 2011. “He is on top in both macro understanding and knowledge of individual segments of the industry,” observes one admirer.
