Manoj Menon of Kotak Securities lands at No. 1. “In a sector rife with analysts who just follow the herd, Manoj isn’t afraid to go out of consensus,” declares one investor. Menon, who is also No. 2 in Consumer/Discretionary, maintained an add rating on GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare when he assumed coverage in November 2008, judging the shares a bargain at 523.59 rupees. Throughout last year he pounded the table on the Gurgaon–based supplier of milk-based food supplements and energy drinks, citing its dominant brand in a growing market. By the end of May 2011, the stock had skyrocketed 338.1 percent, to Rs2,293.90, and trounced the sector by a stunning 268 percentage points. Menon, 35, earned an MBA in 2004 from the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Delhi. He joined Kotak in 2007 after a three-year stint as a commercial manager at consumer packaged goods company Hindustan Unilever.
