The European Commission has selected Aon Hewitt as expert adviser for the possible creation of a pan-European pension fund for researchers, Global Pensions reports. The three-year contract will see the consultancy advice on the preparation of the scheme until 2012, as well as oversee its rollout the following year. The vehicle will not be managed by the European Commission but by, or on behalf of, a consortium of interested employers. The project, which is part of the commission’s 2020 ‘Innovation Union’ initiative, will advise organizations that employ researchers in the European Economic Area willing to establish a pan-European pension fund for researchers.
