French President Nicolas Sarkozy has urged for firmer commodities trading rules, Financial Times reports. He has warned that the rising level of raw material prices may aggravate global imbalances.

In order to limit the leverage effect, a minimum cash deposit for each transaction should be imposed, he added. Sarkozy has also urged to standardize highly complex derivatives and list them on markets or platforms, where they can be closely watched by regulators.
