VimpelCom Gets Nod For $6B Wind Deal

Russian wireless carrier, VimpelCom, has received support from shareholders for the $6 billion acquisition of Wind Telecom.

Russian wireless carrier, VimpelCom, has received support from shareholders for the $6 billion acquisition of Wind Telecom, The Wall Street Journal reports. The deal, which is awaiting regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed by the end of June 2011. VimpelCom will also acquire Canada’s Globalive Wireless as part of its acquisition of Wind. Amsterdam-based Vimpelcom may sign a bridge loan of up to $2.5 billion to fund its acquisition of Wind and Orascom Telecom, a subsidiary of Wind, adds Reuters.
