SNC-Lavalin Group is in discussions with the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) over a joint bid for Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s (AECL) nuclear power reactor business, Reuters reports. AECL’s Candu unit designs and builds reactors for electricity generating stations. Bruce Power, which operates a nuclear generating station in the province of Ontario, had previously dropped out of the biding process. Canada’s conservative government had placed AECL’s Candu reactor division up for sale in 2009.
