RMBS Will Return, Says Securitization Innovator

Lewis Ranieri, who is credited with developing the concept of securitization, says he expects that some form of residential mortgage-backed securitization will re-emerge as the alternative to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, reports CNBC.

Lewis Ranieri, who is credited with developing the concept of securitization, says he expects that some form of residential mortgage-backed securitization will re-emerge as the alternative to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. On the subject of covered bonds, Ranieri said in an interview that they “really don’t’ work for our type of mortgages” in the U.S., namely 30-year loans.
