Carter’s job title these days — head of sales and capital introduction for North America and co–global head of hedge fund consulting — speaks to the burgeoning role of prime brokerage, an industry that began as the back office for hedge funds and has evolved into the primary lifeline for alternative investment firms.

The Johnson School at Cornell University MBA grad joined Deutsche in 1999, covering U.S. pension plans for fixed-income derivatives products and then became senior structurer for the hedge fund derivatives business.
