One of the hardest things for a small hedge fund to do is raise money. In these resource-­strapped times, many large prime brokers are focusing their efforts and resources on “cap intro” — helping hedge funds raise capital — for their larger, more profitable clients. Not ­Stuart Feldman, 41, head of East Coast capital introductions, prime brokerage at New York’s Jefferies & Co. According to Jefferies’s prime brokerage clients, Feldman has revolutionized the practice of cap intro since he joined the firm in 2008, by making sure that everyone is treated equally regardless of size, as well as providing additional advice and ser­vices particularly suited to smaller funds. Having previously worked as a COO for two small health care hedge funds, Feldman knows what it’s like to be a fund at the smaller end of the bell curve.
