Holding steady in second place for a second straight year is the Credit Suisse team led by Luiz Otávio Campos, who, according to one buy-side backer, “has been around a long time and always asks great questions on conference calls or when he’s leading company visits.”
Among the São Paulo–based threesome’s top calls was a January 19 reiteration of its underperform rating on the American depositary receipts of Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile, a leading fertilizer maker in that country, on the grounds that its $42.71 valuation was high in light of an expected decline in earnings this year. The stock had tumbled to $37.99 by late July, a loss of 11.1 percent versus the broad market’s 2.8 percent dip.
