In February he upgraded Cummins from neutral to outperform, at $54.47, on the belief that the Columbus, Indiana–based commercial-engine designer would thrive as truck demand rallied. Sure enough, sales surged — and the stock had leapt 36.6 percent, to $74.41, by the end of August. “Dan has a strong understanding of what drives share performance,” observes one patron.
